Clergy Transfer from Protestant Bodies not in Apostolic Succession
If you are currently ordained with a mainline denominational protestant church body and have found yourself on a "Canterbury Trail," be of good cheer because you are not alone. In recent years, there has been an explosion in the number of clergy who find themselves being led by God on a spiritual journey to the historical church communions. Chaplaincy ministry is, in particular, an area where many mainline denominational pastors are being led.
ORDINATION PROCESS
Clergy from mainline protestant church bodies seeking to become Anglican should complete a vocations application. This application will be accompanied by education records, prior ordination certificates, qualifications with training certificates, a spiritual biography, a professional resume' and clerical history. Additionally, a letter of "Good Standing" from your current Ecclesiastical jurisdiction may be required. Once an applicant has submitted all required documents, a release to complete a Background Investigation (criminal and personal) will be completed in order for the application to be activated. A pre-application interview is required to obtain an application form. Use the "Contact" form to get in touch with the Deanery and the appropriate Deanery Chaplain Coordinator will contact you.
FOR MILITARY CHAPLAINS: If you are currently an Active Duty, Resere, or National Guard Chaplain (not IRR), your application process is streamlined due to the immediate availability of documents. You may call or e-mail us with your questions.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND MENTORING (ETM)
The Deanery for the Chaplaincy has a full education and training program that you will enter as part of the ordination process. These programs, courses, and mentoring activities are required. The number and content of these activities may vary depending upon the applicant's own background, education and training. An applicant will not normally begin ETM until their application process is complete, though some exceptions are made in order to align with education class start and stop dates. In addition and as an alternative to internally managed ETM activities, the Deanery for the Chaplaincy has partnered with our approved seminaries to allow you the best opportunity to complete required ETM in the minimum time necessary. In most all cases, an applicant's ordination with their mainline denomination will be "regularized" and brought under Apostolic Succession once the applicant is approved.
