Welcome to the Deanery for the Chaplaincy...

This is the official website for vocational Chaplains serving in the Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA). This website is updated routinely and can be referenced as a source document for the verification of credentials for Chaplains. We hope you enjoy your visit to this website, and encourage you to learn more about CANA, the Anglican Church of Nigeria, and the world-wide Anglican Communion...

What's so special about the Chaplaincy?

In today's society, when people think of ordained clergy, the most common picture is that of a church or parish minister's role. While the church minister carries an incredible responsibility to shepherd a congregation, many people need and seek the guidance of, and seek the presence of, ordained and highly trained deacons and priests at times outside the usual weekend service at a home church. In fact, there exists whole groups of people who do not have opportunity to be involved in a home church or parish because of work requirements and/or location such as members of the military or homebound medical patients. Chaplains fill these voids... and they do so with specialized training to meet their critical calls. Much like a doctor specializing in a specific area of medicine, Chaplains are highly trained to function in their particular environments.

"If you're considering the Chaplaincy, you need to know that it is a ministry that is very broad in scope. Military Chaplains require different training from Police Chaplains; who are different from Hospital Chaplains; who are different from Prison Chaplains; etc. Take the time to learn all you can about the chaplaincy area to which you believe you are being called before you make the move... seek the advice of those serving as Chaplains to help you discern and/or validate your call. Feel free to contact one of our Chaplains - they have a wealth of information and could help mentor you in the right direction..." Bishop Jones

...More About the Deanery for the Chaplaincy...

CANA is a missionary effort tied to the world-wide Anglican Communion through the Church of Nigeria. While Bishop Martyn Minns provides Episcopal oversight of all chaplains functioning within CANA, administrative responsibilities for the Deanery have been delegated to the Right Reverend Derek Jones (with the CEEC) as an Assisting Bishop.
